Day 38

outside 2

February 7, 2011

4:20 p.m.

Looking out the front window.

It just won't stop snowing. We're supposed to get four more inches tonight. Tomorrow it's supposed to be -20. It's 80 degrees today in Florida. I think really smart people live in Florida.

Are the schools open or closed? It sounds terribly cold. Having just been in Miami for a week I think you maybe right although I prefer the warmth of the Caribbean.

  2. We had two snow days last week after our 20-inch blizzard. The last snow day before that was in 2006.

So school is definitely open! They don't go out to recess if it's below 10 degrees so there won't be any outside recess tomorrow.

  5. Believe it or not, my son and I are so envious of your big snows! Those sub-zero temps are a bit too much, but the snow we love! He has two igloos in the front yard, and he's going to be sad when they melt next week!

Whoa! Below 10 degrees is the cut off for outside recess?! I would have guessed below 32 degrees.
    Stay warm!

  7. The 10 degrees includes the windchill so at times the air temperature is highter. If they couldn't go outside unless it was above 32 degrees they literally wouldn't get to go out all winter and recess in the Winter is the highlight of the day for K&M. Each grade is assigned a day that they get to sled and that is THE best day of the whole week. They have to wear "Winter Gear" -- coat, snow pants, boots, gloves and a hat -- to be able to play on the field. They make snow angels, build snowmen and insist that they don't get cold! Too funny.

  8. Well, we must be geniuses for living in the Caribbean then :)
    Stay warm!

  9. Oh my word. I don't even know what to say when I look at that picture. It's just a little bit nuts, isn't it?

    Stay warm and have fun!

  10. Hello from Florida....
It must be pretty severe.....On the bright side, your photos of the snow are as beautiful...

The high in J-ville in Florida was only 52 today. Coupled with the wind from the ocean, it felt like 42...so...not necessarily so smart in Florida, but not complaining...

  11. Hello,

I know it must be dreadfully cold your way... The high down here in J-Ville, Florida... a respecful 53...felt like 42 with the wind from the ocean (I know no where as windy as your fair city) and the absence of sun for the week.....We're not so smart or clever in Florida.... On a bright note, your photos of the white stuff are beautiful.....
