The Second Annual First Day of School Celebration

Tonight we had a celebration dinner in honor of Kenna and Michal's first day of school. The girls wore paper first-day-of-school crowns and their first-day-of-school dresses. We ate in the dining room on a stack of fancy china plates and all used our very best manners. The first course was tomato soup. It was followed by three cheese pasta and made-from-scratch-and-stuck-to-the-pan-looked-awful-but-tasted-great chocolate cake for dessert. All three courses were accompanied by cold milk served in my vintage Waterford goblets. The menu -- and the goblets -- were at the request of the guests of honor.

(Kenna's face in the photo below absolutely cracks me up. I guess she was tired after her big day.)

After dinner, and before cake, we toasted first grade and new beginnings and how great it is to have your very own teacher!

Today was a really good day.

  1. Congratulations on a hugely successful first day for Michal and Kenna (and mama, who didn't cry this year!). Looks like a wonderful, memorable party and I just love your tradition.

Beautiful. How do the girls like having their own teachers?

  6. I love your posts on all subjects. Today I went to a MJ trunk show...just because Kenna and Michal look so adorable in the clothes. Jerilynn Burris was the trunk keeper and we talked about you, the blog, and the girls. I had an idea that you should help the "mama readers" of your blog find cute clothes, too. I am one of those people who spend my clothes money on Marissa, so I just wear plain things. I'd love to find cute, stylish clothes at a modest price that will fit me well. I am 5'4" and weigh about 100 pounds. My clothes need to be fitted so I look like I have a figure, otherwise loose or baggy clothes make me look like nothing! Will you use your style finesse to help the mamas like me who can't seem to branch out well by ourselves?
