Forever West

We intended to leave Salt Lake City not a minute later than 3:30 p.m. yesterday.

What is it they say about the best laid plans?

We had to swim in the hotel pool -- it really was a beautiful pool -- and we had to eat lunch. We had to stop at Target for all the things we didn't pack because they were too big, or might leak or simply because we forgot them. Then we had to eat dinner. We had to listen to the GPS that sent us the wrong direction and, before we knew it, it was 6:00 p.m. and we were heading out on our five-hour drive to Jackson Hole.

The drive took us to Wyoming and then back to Utah and then into Idaho and finally to Wyoming again. We'd been in the car exactly 12 minutes before the little people in the back seat asked, "Are we there yet?"

It wasn't the last time they asked.

It was a beautiful drive with hardly any other cars on the road. We saw several deer, some cattle and a zillion bugs that kept hitting our windshield with such regularity that it sounded like rain.

We arrived in Jackson when it was already dark so it was fun to throw the windows open this morning and see how absolutely beautiful it is here. We had breakfast at a great place in downtown Jackson and then rode in a stagecoach around the square.

We spent a good part of our day downtown before heading back to our hotel to swim. Our hotel has an indoor-outdoor pool, which the girls thought was really fun.

And I now have an overwhelming desire to buy a pair of cowboy boots. And you should have seen the cute pink ones with brown toes that I spied in a window today in little girl sizes . . . to die for.
