Oh Winter.

Picture 2

Have you ever been to a ski resort? Have you ever noticed that all the people at a ski resort look chic and put together and positively lovely? I remember one year, long before we became parents, Eric and I spent the week between Christmas and New Year's skiing at Whistler -- In the spirit of full disclosure, it was Eric who actually spent the week skiing. I spent a couple days bumbling my way down the mountain before deciding I preferred drinking a hot chocolate and reading a book while he skied. I remember thinking how beautiful everyone looked walking through the village from their condos and hotels to the ski lift. Their cheeks were rosy, their ski jackets matched their ski pants, which matched their hats, which also matched their gloves. The people seemed to just somehow complement the beauty of the mountain.

So why don't people in Chicago, we're talking about me here, look fabulous, in Michal's words, "all wintered up?" Take yesterday as an example. My jeans soaked up water and salt and had a telling white line about three inches from the bottom. My coat had splattered salt marks on it and I won't even begin to talk about my shoes. It snowed nearly the entire day yesterday and was really cold, which turned my nose perpetually red in a frightening imitation of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

This morning the sun is out and the sky is clear and blue. It also happens to be -11 with the wind chill.

I am so ready for Spring . . . and a new, salt-free wardrobe.

  1. It's bitter cold down in Indiana too! Yesterday my girls had a "fashion show"...trying on some of their new "springwear"! Hurry spring! :)

My "sister" lives outside of Chicago as well and she has said it have been bitterly cold out!! Good luck and yes spring please come soon:)

    Blessings, Ashley

  4. I thought about you today, as a matter of fact...it was pretty darned cold in Indianapolis, and, as I was walking out the door to drive my girls to the bus stop, I thought how much colder it must be in Chicago! I gotta tell you, though, we'd like a little more snow to go with our cold. Cold is just no fun without snow. And I'm with you on the skiing thing. It didn't take me long when we lived in Colorado to figure out that I liked the lodge best.

Sorry, but it sounds truly awful! Time for a trip to Hawaii, don't you think?
