40 years of Sesame Street.

Long before there were entire networks devoted to children's programming, there was Sesame Street.

The Count taught us about numbers and Bert and Ernie taught us about friendship -- and pigeons and rubber duckies. We learned how to say words in Spanish and how to figure out which thing wasn't like the others. We waited eagerly to learn what the "letter of the day" would be and marveled at the never-ending list of real celebrities who showed up to sing a song or do a sketch on our favorite street.

And only Sesame Street could have given us a song like "Mahna Mahna."

Today is the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street.

Michal declared this morning, "We better bake cookies today. For the Cookie Monster."

I think it's the least we could do.

  1. It's a pretty exciting season. Our good friend's son, Rocco, is going to be on with Telly and Elmo. (He was our ringbearer at our wedding 8 years ago and now a 13 year old jazz musician who happens to be blind) I'm kind of looking forward to see how they are going to "refresh" and "renew" things. We're not home during the day since Camille's in kindergarten now, but I'm sure we'll be able to catch the reruns!

  4. I was so nostalgic thinking of this anniversary. I just turned 42 so I grew up watching Sesame STreet and I remember it vividly from my childhood. The boys both watched it and Will LOVED it. Sad to say, ti never held Kate's interest because I think it is a fabulous show...a true classic.

Have a wonderful time at the happiest place on earth:)
