On the Good Ship Lollipop

IMG_1244

I was three when I had my first dance recital. I wore a white satin leotard with hot pink and orange sparkly trim and a glittery headband across my forehead with one feather sticking straight up in the back.

I still have the outfit, complete with hot pink lipstick smudges on the front, and can remember having my picture taken in it standing in front of a wall. Oddly, I have no memory of the actual performance but have been told it was a bit like watching an episode of "America's Funniest Home Videos."

I've chosen to take that as a compliment.

Michal and Kenna's big dance debut was in a red, white and blue sparkly, fluffy costume topped off by a white sailor's hat with a red and white polka-dotted bow. When I told them I was so excited to see them dance in their first recital, they reminded me that they had already performed at the Dance Christmas Party and that was their first recital, which is actually true. But this was their first in-a-real-costume-on-a-real-stage performance that required red lipstick and a formal dress rehearsal.

And it was truly the cutest darn thing I've ever seen! And yes, I am their mother and just a wee bit biased, but it really was cute. And they were so excited and really did so well. I am positive this will be only the first of many times they get to dance on a stage.

I just hope they remember tonight . . . or at least remember taking the pictures.

This is at the dress rehearsal. They are waiting not-so-patiently back stage.

They're taping out their marks on the floor. Kenna is third from the left.

Kenna at the dress rehearsal. The way her feet are turned in just cracks me up.

We went out for ice cream with rainbow sprinkles to celebrate after the recital. Almost as exciting as the recital . . .

The girls put their sailor's hats on as soon as they got up on Saturday morning. They then asked if they could eat the magic wand cookies they got after the recital from our friend Kaitlyn. The cookies were definitely a hit!
