Herding cats.

Today it dawned on me that I don't ever use my double stroller any more. I once read that moms of twins tend to use a stroller much longer than moms of singletons and I wholeheartedly believe that's true. For me, using the stroller meant freedom. It meant I could go somewhere and not have to look like a crazy lady trying to herd a pair of cats.

I vividly remember one of the first times I tried to go to the mall without a stroller and spent the entire time fishing one or the other of the girls out of the spinning racks, or chasing one or the other of them as she headed for the oh-so-fun escalator. One time Kenna actually made it on to the escalator before I could grab her. As I lunged after her, Michal decided that there was no way she was going to come with me. So there was Michal at the bottom of the escalator, me climbing up the escalator and Kenna nearly to the top of the escalator. Luckily, some woman heard my pleas for help and stood with Michal at the bottom of the escalator until Kenna and I could turn around and come back down.

It's funny because I don't remember deciding I wasn't going to use the stroller any more. I guess, like so many things, it just happened.

So today the girls and I went to California Pizza Kitchen for lunch. (Michal's very favorite restaurant most times I ask. Sometimes it's Noodles though because they put the much-coveted stringy cheese on top of their macaroni and cheese, but I digress.) We then sat outside and ate madeleines from Starbucks and looked at the tulips just coming up from under the ground. And that's when it dawned on me. I haven't used the stroller in a long time and boy do these two little girls sitting beside me seem so very grown up.

I never thought I'd miss my cat-herding days but I do . . . just a little. Maybe I'll have to stick them in the stroller just for old times sake.
