Happy 4th of July!

We spent the Fourth of July in Cincinnati with my parents -- who flew in from Arizona -- my Aunt Judy and Uncle Dick, and a large group of other family friends.

The highlight of the day was the annual "Fourth of July Breakfast in the Park." (Think eggs and bacon on the grill . . . ) The event was started more than 60 years ago by my Grandma and Grandpa, and their close friends, and has continued every single year since. There are now four generations at the breakfast that include the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of those original couples. The girls loved it and had a great time with the other "fourth generation" kids. The picture in the bottom right corner above is of Alice and Cliff, two of the "founders" of the event.

Later in the day we had a BBQ in my Aunt's backyard. It rained a little but cleared up in time to build a fire to toast marshmallows and make s'mores! After dinner -- and s'mores and homemade ice cream --we went back to our hotel and got the girls in their pajamas just in time to watch the fireworks right outside our window. We got all the "oohh and ahhh" without any of the "bang and boom." Perfect.
