They're here . . .

Well, that "cicada expert" is pretty darn smart. This is what we woke up to this morning just like he said we would. So far it seems that the cicadas are fairly limited to our front yard -- might have something to do with the 90-year old Elm trees -- with only a few in our back yard.

I went out first thing this morning to see them, saw a dozen or so wriggling on our driveway and promptly turned around and came back inside. So I asked Eric, who has started calling me "Cicada Girl" given my new-found obsession with all things cicada, to take these pictures.

When he came back in he said, "I'm kind of disappointed. I expected Biblical numbers and there's only a couple hundred on Mike's lawn." (Mike is our next door neighbor.)

OK, I don't know about you but a couple hundred of anything that crawls and has beady red eyes is a couple hundred too many for me. I don't know if we'll have more emerge tomorrow morning but I will admit that if this is it, it's not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Enjoy these photos, Cicadas are actually pretty cool little creatures -- as long as you don't have to worry about stepping on one or having one fly in your hair.
