Mother's Day

The girls -- and Eric -- took me to brunch this morning at a restaurant in Millenium Park. It was a beautiful day so we spent some time playing in the park, listening to a band and gawking at our reflections in "The Bean." ("The Bean" is acutally called "Cloud Gate" and is a 110-ton elliptical sculpture made from highly polished stainless steel plates that reflect the city's skyline. A 12-foot-high arch provides a "gate" to the concave chamber beneath the sculpture where you can see your image reflected back from a variety of perspectives.)

The girls thought it was absolutely hilarious that they could see themselves inside the bean. If you look for the little white and hot pink specks in the photo that is taken looking up, you'll see the girls reflected back again over and over.

The photos on the grass were initially an attempt to take a Mother's Day photo of the three of us. Eric was acting goofy to make them smile and they both were giggling so hard they ended up knocking all three of us over. ( I like these better than the more posed pictures we were actually trying to take.)

After brunch and playing in the park, we shopped on Michigan Avenue for awhile before heading home. I went and had dinner all by myself while Eric watched the girls. I spent a glorious hour and a half eating and reading magazines without a single interruption.

It was a wonderful day!
