"Forget love . . . I'd rather fall in chocolate."

One of the things Eric gave me for my birthday was a gift certificate to go have chocolate fondue. Now Eric can take or leave chocolate, and actually prefers vanilla or carmel when given the choice, so this was truly a gift for me . . . or Michal and me as it turns out.

We went to the fondue place and were seated at a table with a hot pink suede bench and a swirly gold light above the table. The whole effect was very funky and girly and reminded me of what it must be like to sit inside of Jeannie's -- of "I Dream of Jeannie" -- bottle. (And I mean that in a good sort of way.)

We were brought a pot of melted chocolate along with strawberries, bananas, pound cake, pretzels and other things to dip.

Now let me stop here to interject that Michal and Kenna rarely, if ever, eat refined sugar. I threw away their Halloween candy after trick or treating and, other than an occassional bite of ice cream, they just really don't eat many sweets -- unless yogurt counts, which is a dietary staple in our house. Before we left, we told them we were going to have chocolate fondue and Michal must have said, "chocolate time" twenty-five times before we got to the restaurant.

So they bring us an enormous pot of chocolate and put it in the middle of the table. I give Michal some pretzels and she starts dipping. Oh my gosh the child is in heaven. I don't think she could believe her good fortune. She dipped and she dunked. She licked chocolate off her plate. She said, "chocolate time" twenty-five more times. We finally had to move the pot closer to her because she was making such a huge mess. Eric and I were both laughing so hard just watching her.

Kenna, on the other hand, wasn't quite so impressed. She thought the dipping part was great. She wasn't thrilled with the eating part. (Clearly she's her father's daughter.)

Michal now hopefully asks me, "chocolate?" if she sees anything that's food and brown. She is a girl after my own heart!
