The Grinch Party

We went to Chris and Ileana's annual Grinch Party tonight. There were lots and lots of little girls -- and one little boy! -- there so Michal and Kenna had a great time playing in the basement with them. The girls -- a group of them, not just mine -- figured out that the desk chair was a great place to sit and spin. One would push the chair while another sat on the seat giggling as she went around and around. The funny part was when Maya, who would push the chair with all her might, would get pushing so fast that the chair would literally start spinning her instead of visa versa. At one point she even fell to ground but was back pushing as fast as she could get back on her feet!

Throughout the night we kept laughing about the "upstairs versus downstairs" parties that were happening simultaneously. Upstairs there were adults eating hors d'oeuvres and holding glasses of wine. Downstairs there were little girls with juice boxes spinning on chairs. Since spinning little girls need supervision, I wasn't upstairs very often.

The highlight of the night was the reading of the "Grinch Who Stole Christmas." Michal decided that running around during the reading was more fun that actually sitting down during the reading but it was a nice finish to the evening anyway.

"That's a noise," grinned the Grinch,
"That I simply must hear!"
So he paused. And the Grinch put a hand to his ear.
And he did hear a sound rising over the snow.
It started out low. Then it started to grow . . .

But the sound wasn't sad!
Why, this sound sounded merry!
It couldn't be so!
But it WAS merry! VERY!

He stared down at Who-ville!
The Grinch popped his eyes!
Then he shook!
What he saw was a shocking surprise!

Every Who down in Who-ville, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any presents at all!
He HADN'T stopped Christmas from coming!
Somehow or other, it came just the same!
