The Macy's Christmas Windows

One of the great Chicago Christmas traditions is going to the downtown Marshall Field's (now Macy's) to see the Christmas windows and the enormous Christmas tree in the Walnut Room.

So, we took the girls to see the windows and the tree. The windows are animated and tell the story of Mary Poppins. The girls were mesmerized! They especially loved one scene where a large, red bus moves across the window and honks and rattles loudly. They thought it was a truck until I told them it was actually a bus.

There were an unbelievable number of people looking at the windows so luckily the girls are little and could stand right against the windows without blocking anyone's view. I won't mention that they also decided to put their mouths against the windows, which I quickly stopped. Ick!

The best part was that the weather was perfect! We stood outside for a long time -- without coats! You know you've really become a Midwesterner when you're excited about not needing to wear a coat.
