Labor Day Weekend

Where did the summer go? It seems like I blinked and it's over. The weather has cooled off a little and we're now starting Fall, the very best time of year in Chicago. (If only Fall wasn't always followed by the worst time of year in Chicago . . .)

We spent our last summer weekend in Wisconsin at Elkhart Lake. The weather was perfect and we had a great time. The girls both drove a boat for the first time -- with some assistance from Daddy -- and loved swimming in the pool and playing in the lake.

The resort was near one of the few open road racing tracks left in the US. There were Porsche races going on while we were there and one night all of the drivers lined their cars up on the street so people could walk around and gawk at them. As we were walking, I said to Michal, "Look at all the dream cars." She then started labeling each car as we went by . . . "black dream car," "red dream car" . . . and continued with her running commentary all the way down the street. People would overhear her and just laugh.

We spent one day while we were there at the county fair and the girls loved that too! It was a real county fair, with more farm equipment on display than I've ever seen in my entire life! (There were lots of 4H kids showing the animals they'd raised or the project they'd created. (The pictures of the 4H displays are specifically for my 4H-joining, guniea-pig-raising godchildren, Raegan and Brennan. I think we need to get you wooden signs like the ones in the picture -- only tinier!)

The second photo below is of Kenna dancing on top of the play structure that was on the beach at our hotel. She could hear Jimmy Buffet blaring at a beach bar nearby and being our if-there's-music-playing-then-I'm-dancing girl, she immediately started be-bopping. To see her dance is pretty darn cute. Eric and I both joke that she dances an awful lot like Elaine on Seinfeld. She really loves to dance so we're just hoping her technique will improve with practice.

All in all it was the perfect finish to summer.
